L. Peter Moloney, known to all as Peter, passed away Wednesday, May 17, at Hackensack Hospital. He was 67 and died after a heart attack.
Mr. Moloney, a great walker and photographer, was often seen around his hometown of Rutherford headed to one of the borough’s athletic fields to take photos of family, friends, friends of friends, and children of friends from the St. Mary’s Council of the Knights of Columbus. His photos from games and family events fill a countless number of photo books. He also was fond of shooting river and ocean scenes near the family summer home in Point Pleasant.
He was rarely without his camera.
Born at Holy Name Hospital in Teaneck, Mr. Moloney was brought up in Rutherford and attended public schools there. He worked at Berlin & Jones, in East Rutherford for 25 years before retiring. Peter was Leo and Dorothy Moloney’s oldest son. He is survived by his sisters Kathleen Moloney of Frederick, MD, and Dorothy Moloney of Point Pleasant, NJ; and brothers Thomas Moloney of Rutherford and Daniel Moloney of Hendersonville, NC; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by brothers James and Gerard.
Visitation for Mr. Moloney will be held at Calhoun- Mania Funeral Home in Rutherford on Sunday 4pm to 9pm.
Funeral on Monday, gathering 9:30am in the Funeral Home for 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery , North Arlington.
