Obituary for William F. Kraus

William F. Kraus,88, of Rutherford passed away on Saturday, August 26th, 2017. Born in 1929 to Charles & Mabel (nee Hock) Kraus in Newark, NJ, Bill was a proud US
Marine Corp veteran. He joined the Rutherford Police Dept. in the mid 1950’s and served as Chief of Police for 21 years. He was the longest serving Police Chief in
Rutherford history. He was past president of Bergen County Police Chief Association and State Chief Association, graduate of the FBI National Academy, and a member of the Rutherford Masonic Lodge and Shriner International. After retiring from the Police Dept. in 1990, Bill started SOS Law Enforcement, where he helped revise police procedures, as well as advised active duty police officers in preparation for their written & oral advancement exams.
Bill was an avid reader, enjoyed smoking an occasional cigar around his pool, and watching his favorite teams, NY Giants and Yankees.
Bill is predeceased by his beloved wife Agnes of 44 years (nee DiDonato) 2001.
He will be deeply missed by his children; William Jr., & wife Lizbeth Doving, Charles & wife Jerilynn Caliendo, Louise Kraus, Gretchen Jackson & husband Daniel, Grandchildren; Shaun, Olivia, Sarah, Daniel, Bjorn, Katerina, Aiden and Lilah. He is survived by his sister Marilyn Campbell.

Family will receive friends Monday 4-8 in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
