MaryJoan H. Fasciano

MaryJoan (nee Fiscella), age 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 5, 2017 at Hackensack University Medical Center , Hackensack NJ surrounded by her loving family. Born in Ridgefield, NJ on November 26th, 1932, she was a resident of Tenafly and later a resident of Cresskill. She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Nancy Fiscella of Ridgefield, and her late husband John F. Fasciano of Tenafly, NJ. She is survived by her loving children Bernard and his wife Traci, daughter Nancy and husband David. Beloved grandchildren John, David, Elizabeth, and Maria and many family and friends. Her career as a lyrical Soprano soloist spans many years. MaryJoan Fiscella/Fasciano was known by her stage name Maria Fiscella/Fasciano, who performed in four languages and was well known throughout New York Metropolitan area. She was a pupil of Iona Harms, studied repertory with David Garvey, musical theory with Irene Taylor and was presented by John Harms Concerts. Maria was winner of the Paterson Philharmonic Award 1953, winner of the Griffith Foundation Young Artist Award 1955, a LiederKranz Foundation award winner, soloist at Town Hall, New York 1955, and performed on programs with famous opera elite Renata Tebadi, Ceare Siepi, Jennie Tourel, Giorgio Touzzi, Jerome Hines, Sandor Konya and Regina Resnik to name a few. In her post competitive opera career MaryJoan spent six years as the soloist at the famed Radio City Music Hall Christmas pageant, “The Nativity”. Additionally, due to her extensive church and choral experience she was asked to sing for the Pope in 1979. She performed funerals and weddings in her later years . She was described numerous times as having an “exceptionally beautiful voice and she was a superb musician.” Despite a successful professional life MaryJoan’s true passion was her family. What brought MaryJoan the greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also had the unique ability to make everyone feel good to whom she spoke to.
