Born to Giuseppe and Giuseppa LoSauro in Sperlinga, Sicily, Sal and his wife, Phyllis, settled in Rutherford in 1976 where they raised their family and recently celebrated 50 years of marriage together.
Salvatore was a proud U.S. Army Veteran who served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne unit before being honorably discharged after suffering a service-connected spinal cord injury. Later, he went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from NJIT, and worked as a civil engineer for many years at several companies before spending 20 years at the NJ Department of Labor and Workforce Development as the Veteran's Services Supervisor until retirement in 2013. From 1995-96, he served as the NJ State Commander of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and was also a lifetime member of the Bergen County DAV Chapter 15 in Little Ferry, serving as their commander for many years, as well as their treasurer for several years.
Salvatore was also the co-founder and treasurer of the New Jersey Association of Veterans Service Officers for over 20 years, and served on the Veteran’s Advisory Committee at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home.
He spent a great deal of his time working tirelessly on behalf of veterans and touched the lives of many people through his dedication.
As proud as he was of being a veteran, he was most proud of his three children and seven grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all of them, including his devoted wife, Phyllis (nee Cappola), and his loving children, Joseph and his wife Jeri; Salvatore and his wife Doreen; Gina and her husband Eric; as well as his grandchildren: Salvatore Rocco; Nicole; Joseph; Salvatore Anthony; Dominic; Bryce, and Brooks. He is predeceased by his brother Placido LoSauro, and is survived by his siblings, sister Mimma Turco of Woodcliff Lake, NJ, and brother Guy LoSauro of Upper Saddle River.

Family will receive friends and loved ones on Tuesday, December 5 from 4-8 pm at the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
