Obituary for Julia Smith

Julia  Smith
• Julia A. Smith, 92, of Paramus formerly of Rutherford, passed away Thursday, May31, 2018. She was born in Jersey City to James and Mary Gregory.
As a young woman, Julia was a trailblazer. She was the First female to graduate from the Jersey City Police Academy and was employed by the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office as a Sheriffs Officer for 40 years before retiring in 1997.
Julia was a member of the Italian Club, and Past President of the Dante Alighieri Society in Jersey City and was a member of Rutherford UNICO. One of her special talents was also being a very handy.
She always held 2 or 3 jobs, one she enjoyed very much was working for Tippys Restaurant in Jersey City as a waitress.
She also loved to play Bingo and take trips to AC for a little gambling.

Julia is predeceased by her first husband Edward Motleski Sr. and second husband Harry Smith and her daughter-in-law Margaret Motyleski (2017).
She will be deeply missed by her devoted children, Edward Motyleski Jr., Michael Motyleski, Charles Smith and wife Gail, grandchildren Michael Motyleski, Jr., Michele Motyleski, Lauren Smith, 3 Great grandchildren, Kyler Motyleski, Alexis Hope Motyleski, Emma Audrey Smith and 10 Sibling “ the Gregory’s"; Franklin, Marco, Jack, Daniel, Samuel, Leroy and Frances Pavick. Predeceased by 3 Gregory siblings, Anna, Louis and Ria.

Family will be received on Monday from 4-8pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home. 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Tuesday leaving 9:30 am from Funeral Home followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford. Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, No Arlington.
