Helen C.  Nearpass (Cameron)
Helen Cameron Nearpass, 88, formerly of East Rutherford, NJ passed in her Lord’s presence on Wednesday, September 5, 2012.

Visitation will be at the Collins-Calhoun Funeral Home, 19Lincoln Ave., Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, September 9, 2012, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm with a celebration service of her life on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 10am to be held at the Rutherford Bible Chapel, 161 West Passaic Ave., Rutherford, NJ.

Helen was born Helen Park Cameron in 1923 in Glasgow, Scotland, and emigrated to the United States with her parents at the age of three. Her childhood years were spent in Kearny, NJ, from where she graduated high school.

Upon his return from World War II, Walter Nearpass proposed to her on February 14, 1946, and they were married the following July 6, 1946 They settled in East Rutherford, and raised two children, Carol and Doug.

An active parent, Helen was a participant and leader in the local school mother’s clubs and music programs.

Her faith and participation in church were her most ardent passions. The family attended Rutherford Bible Chapel in Rutherford, NJ for over 50 years, during which time, Helen started several programs for children and youth, including Sunbeams for young girls, Bible Believers for high schoolers, College and Career Fellowship, Girls’ Alive, and Mailbox Bible Club. Along with her husband, Walter, Helen influenced hundreds of young people for over 60 years.

In 2007, Helen and Walter moved from East Rutherford to The Pines at Whiting in Whiting, NJ. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on July 6, 2011.

Helen was predeceased by her husband, Walter, her brother Donald, and sister Mary. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Martin and her husband Dennis, of Chicago, IL, and her son, Walter Douglas and his wife Lee, of Kearny, NJ; and her loving grandchildren, Heather Baker and her husband Donald of Lebanon, NJ and Holly Nearpass of Brick, NJ.

Helen will best be remembered as a devoted friend and fervent teacher of the Bible. Her dinner table was as frequently used as a counseling room, as it was to host missionaries home from foreign fields. She would have been 89 years old on September 26, 2012.
