Obituary for Paul Romano

Paul Romano
Mr. Romano, born in 1928 in Lodi, was a long-time resident of Rutherford. He resided at the Senior Housing in East Rutherford at the time of his death. Mr. Romano served in the U.S. Army as a Heavy Machine Gun Crewman and in the Merchant Marines as a cook. He was a recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal for his efforts after WWII.

His favorite pastimes were reading, fishing and crabbing, and jigsaw puzzles as well as doting over his nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews and spending time with family. Mr. Romano always had an interesting story or a funny joke that would make you smile and lift your spirits.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Dominick and Josephine Romano of Rutherford, and three brothers, Frank of Ridgefield Park, John of Secaucus, and Samuel of Santa Barbara, CA and his nephew Frank W Romano of Lancaster, PA. He is the beloved brother of Ruth Young and her husband John of Pompton Plains, and the much adored uncle to 10 nieces and nephews and 15 grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

There will be a memorial service at a later date.

Poem

Ode to Uncle Paul written by Ruth Young 1993

AN ODE TO UNCLE PAUL

We gather today in a memorable way

To remember the years thru the present day.

To us you’re a legend, one of a kind,

With so many things that come to our mind.

From the start of our lives you've always been

there,

We were fortunate to have an Uncle so fair.

We waited on Saturday for you to drop by,

To tease us and test us and quiz us; but why?

From buttons to cotton and kitten and mitten,

We listened and answered, and with knowledge

were smitten.

Our friends were not as fortunate to have an

Uncle like you,

And as we grew thru the years, we realized

that too!

Starting with walks and then talks, you were

Uncle and friend,

And we are sorry our children that time will

not spend.

As we gather today for your 65th year,

There are some that are missing, but in there

hearts they are here.

We've collected some pictures for you to enjoy,

Starting from when you were a very young boy.

Hope you will like them, and then maybe too,

You will add some more pictures all the years

through.

May God bless you and keep you safe in his care

And at some future date may we again share.

LOVE,
