Obituary for Ian Sutherland Dowding

Ian Sutherland Dowding, 81, of New York City, died April 8, 2018 with his family at his side.

He was born in Hamilton, Ontario Canada to Victor Pearcey Dowding and Mary Collie Dowding, nee Campbell.

A resident of New York City, he worked at Greenwald Industries for 28 years, and then was Sacristan at St. Patrick's Cathedral for over 15 years.

He was a champion of structure and order, and a good and loyal friend to many.

He is survived by his cherished sisters, Mary Ballantine and Linda Blackley, nieces Juliet Baker, Vanessa Burt, Laura Ballantine and Jennifer Ballantine; nephews Marcus Burt and Mark Ballantine; his great nieces Meg Ballantine, Kate Ballantine and Samantha Burt; his great nephews Zacharie Richard, Adam Richard, Nicholas Ferwerda, Jacob Ferwerda, Rory Hopper Ballantine, Hollis Bowman and his best friend, R. George Winters.

Funeral will be held on Thursday April 12, 2018 at 10:00am for a Memorial Mass of Christian Liturgy in St. Patrick’s Cathedral, 5th Ave., New York City, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Cathedral or Humane Society of New York.
