Obituary for Marie Stephanie Thomas

Marie S. Thomas, 80, of Rutherford, passed away suddenly Friday, June 21, 2019. She was born to Peter and Stephanie Trombino in Jersey City, where she grew up.
Marie was very sociable, desiring the company of others rather than being alone. She was friendly and engaging with people during the many activities she participated in. She loved to crochet, especially with the Kip Center crochet group, where she was a member. She would attend the chair exercising class too, at the Kip Center as well as their many other activities. She also loved Bingo and would attend Bingo games at the Boys and Girls Club in Clifton, Assumption Church in Wood-Ridge and Mount Carmel Church in Lyndhurst.

She also enjoyed "scratch offs" and going to the Meadowland Race Track for fun and enjoyment of the horses, which she loved. You would often see Marie sitting on the front porch feeding the birds and doing word find puzzle books or playing cards with her daughter Dymphna.

Marie was also a talented artist who spent time sketching and painting people, this gave her great pleasure. She loved watching "Family Feud" with Steve Harvey and really enjoyed chocolate, especially Reeses Pieces.
She got a big kick out of herself when she was an "extra" in the King Kong Movie filmed in NYC, when she was an Executive Secretary for SB Penec Publishing & Advertising in Manhattan, during that time.
Marie was a member of the Rutherford Woman's Club and a member of the Church of Saint Mary; she was a devoted and faithful Catholic.

Marie was married to the late John “Jack” William Benson. Later in 1977, she married Edward A.Thomas , who passed away last year. after 41 years together.
She leaves behind her beloved Children, Stephanie Jordan & husband Bruce, Dymphna Marie Thomas & boyfriend Christopher Quinn, grandchildren, Lisa, Ryan, Justin & Matthew, great-grandchildren, Bryanna, Joshua, Skylar & Alannah Marie. She is predeceased by her daughter Donna Jean Benson (2013).

Visiting Tuesday 3-7pm in the Calhoun-Mania Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford.
Funeral Wednesday 9:30am at Funeral Home followed by 10:30am Mass of Christian Liturgy in the Church of Saint Mary, Rutherford.
Interment in Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington.
